If a pipe bursts and your home is flooding will you know what to do before calling Palm Coast plumbers?
In the event of an emergency, everyone in your family needs to know how to turn off the main water valve coming into your home. Shutting off the water quickly in a plumbing crisis such as a bursting pipe can save you thousands of dollars in damage.
The house valve is usually located in the front or side yard, near the house, on a pipe coming up from the ground and entering the house. Look for a faucet (water spigot) with a pipe coming out of the ground with a valve on the pipe which should be located between the ground and the faucet. This is the house shut off valve which stops the flow of water into your home.
The shut-off valve will have either a round handle (Gate Valve) or a single handle (Ball Valve). Turn the valve clockwise to turn off the water. If you are unable to find the shut-off valve ask your Plam Coast plumber for assistance.
Also, each sink and toilet will also have an individual shut-off valve to that one pipe! If you have a minor emergency and can identify the location such as a sink or toilet overflowing you can quickly shut off the water to that particular pipe. When you shut-off the main valve you will also need to turn off the power to the hot water heater to avoid damaging it.
It’s good to Know where the shut-off valve to the home is before a plumbing crisis occurs. Once you indentify it’s location show your family where and how it works. If you have any doubts have your Palm Coast plumber show you and your family how to turn off the water supply to the home and to each individual sink and toilet.

If my PEP (Pretreatment Effluent Pumping System) tank light is red on the side of my house, do I call my Palm Coast plumber? Who do I call?
On the control panel, located on the side of your house, you will notice there is a red light and a green light on the side nearest the road. The green light indicates that the control panel is energized and should always be illuminated. The red light is part of an audio-visual high water alarm. Should the PEP System malfunction, the red light will come on and an audible alarm will sound. If this happens, you should press the audible alarm button located on the bottom of the panel and call Palm Coast Customer Service immediately, (386) 986-2360. Don’t call your Florida plumber unless you are experiencing a plumbing situation inside the home.
The PEP System is part of your central sewage system. All system components from the pretreatment tank to the treatment plant inclusive, are maintained by the Utility Department. The system is owned and operated by the City of Palm Coast Utility Department.
To protect the PEP System and to help prevent your house lines from clogging, do not throw any of the following items down your drain.
